Through activities held within churches, Presbyteries and Synods of the Congolese Presbyterian Church, SEPRES teaches unemployed youth vocational skills to enable them to earn a living and improve the commmunity.

Auto Mechanics

The auto mechanic apprentice class is a 12 month program. There is a great need for mechanics because the cars are in disrepair; many 20 years old or older. Each student must pass an exam to graduate. Upon graduation the student is given some basic tools to start their own business.

Carpentry

Carpentry apprentices attend class for 12 months. They must demonstrate their skills by completing various projects. If they pass their tests, they receive a set of tools to start their own business,

Sewing

Each participant is instructed in basic math skills needed to be able to sew. They learn how to follow a pattern as well as make one. They learn various stitching techniques. They also learn how to maintain their machine. After demonstrating their knowledge of sewing they are given supplies to start their own business. They will want to make items during class that they can sell to earn enough to buy their own machine.

Agriculture

Food is in short supply so having agricultural skills is very important. Manioc is a major food source in their diet. Fields must be cultivated, seeds planted, and harvest stored securely. Students work an entire planting season from beginning to storage. Many graduates join together to plant fields since most work is done by hand. Teachers are with the students in the fields demonstrating proper cultivation methods.

SEPRES supports and advises the CPC members in community development activities. Goals include rebuilding infrastructure, assuring food security, and contributing to the socioeconomic self-suffiency of vulnerable people.
